Teach this first!!
Teaching how to find our sit bones and hold our lotus flowers is something you will need to teach upfront! This is setting a foundation for listening, personal space, and respect for the physical and quiet space we share. If you are in a classroom or group this fundamental skill will help to encourage respect for personal space (keeping hands and feet to self and out of shoes and noses!) I start off by telling the story of how the lotus flower grows (from the roots in the mud at the bottom of ponds, stem grows up through the water and the lotus blooms just above the water. In the evening the flower closes and in the morning it opens up for a new day.)

I found these round place mats to use instead of yoga mats. They don't take up a lot of space and do a nice job of keeping kids in their personal space. You can get these at the Dollar Store, Target, Walmart, etc.

Yoga blocks are a great addition to any classroom! They can be used of course for balance poses, sitting poses, etc. Double dip the use and keep them in a play center for kids to build with.

Here is a very simple yoga sequence to do when learning about how things grow. Incorporate what flowers or trees need to grow (dirt, water, sun, and love) 3 poses is all you need! You will see this flow grows from a seed to a seedling to a flower. You can modify this to be a tree as well ending with Tree Pose. Try it out!
